Miami-Dade mayor gets COVID-19 vaccine booster shot at Tropical Park

MIAMI – To help promote the COVID-19 vaccine booster shots, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava turned receiving hers on Wednesday into a public event.

Will Hall, a paramedic with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, administered the booster shot at the Nomi Health location in Tropical Park, on Bird Road and 79th Street.

“Just like the first two, the Pfizer booster shot was safe, easy, and free. I got mine to further protect myself and those around me from new, more dangerous variants — and I urge all eligible residents to do the same,” Levine Cava, 66, tweeted.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials authorized Pfizer’s vaccine booster shots last month and they are reviewing data on booster shots by Johnson & Johnson and Moderna.

Pfizer’s vaccine booster shots are available for adult vaccine recipients who completed the initial series at least 6 months ago and who work or live in high-risk settings.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials don’t recommend mixing vaccine brands.
