Police say he’s the man who was captured on surveillance video Monday stealing money from the Bagel Time Cafe, located at 3915 Alton Road.

Previously when Bagel Time was in the news, it was for somebody taking down an Israeli flag hanging outside and stomping on it. That happened three times in a matter of months, its owner said.

This time, all the thief seemingly wanted on his bagel was someone else’s hard-earned cash.

“Smooth as butter,” Bagel Time owner Josh Nodel told Local 10 Tuesday, adding that the crook got away with $200. “He comes inside, comes to the counter, goes to my wife...I guess she was giving him a free bagel.”

According to the arrest report, Scott, who is homeless, told Nodel’s wife that he was hungry but didn’t have any money.

Police said she then went to the back area of the business to get some food for him.

According to the report, Scott left the business only to return a short time later to tell the woman he had dropped the bagel that she had warmed up for him and asked for another one.

Police said she returned to the back of the store to get another bagel, at which time Scott reached over the counter and grabbed the tip jar, taking the money from it before placing it back on the counter.

As of Thursday morning, Scott was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,500 bond.
