BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A stretch of dangerously hot weather continues across South Florida this weekend, with heat index values expected to soar into the triple digits once again.
Though no official heat advisory was issued Saturday, temperatures felt near or above 100 degrees in many areas by midday, and conditions are expected to peak between 2 and 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service continues to urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and avoid walking pets on hot pavement during the afternoon hours.
Local 10 meteorologist Amanda Pappas said high humidity, light winds and a ridge of high pressure are combining to keep the region hot and mostly dry.
She said the high pressure system compresses air as it sinks, trapping heat at the surface and reducing cloud cover and rain chances.
“We’re locked into this steamy pattern,” said Pappas. “With heat index values pushing 108 degrees in spots like Miami, it’s critical to take precautions if you’re spending time outside.”
Morning temperatures across South Florida were already climbing fast — with readings in the upper 80s and low 90s in cities like Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Pembroke Pines.
Pappas said the hot, dry pattern is expected to hold through the weekend, with daytime highs in the low to mid-90s and “feels like” temperatures well above that.
She said rain chances begin to rise early next week, potentially bringing some relief to the region.
