Theirs was the first legal gay marriage in Costa Rica and it was streamed live on the internet. Costa Rica is the sixth country in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage, following most recently Ecuador, which allowed it last year. The Legislative Assembly did not act, so at midnight the law banning same-sex marriage was nullified.

The WHO hopes conditions will improve so an assembly with a far broader agenda can be held before year-end. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and points to the widely accepted One China policy. Allowing for some sort of meaningful participation would seem to be the minimum that the WHO could do, U.S.
