It marked only the second time (the other being 2005) that the standard list of names for the season was exhausted, pushing the late-season storms into the Greek alphabet. A new, supplementary list of standard names will take over, should we see another season have more than 21 named storms. In the event the standard names are exhausted during hurricane seasonThe move was made by the National Hurricane Committee after a virtual meeting this week, citing problems with the use of naming storms after the Greek alphabet. This would also match the start date of the Pacific Hurricane Season, but for now, it remains June 1 for the Atlantic.

South Florida has been feeling the cloudy presence of Invest 90L, a low-pressure system that has the potential of developing into a tropical or subtropical depression or storm. There was flooding in areas of Monroe County on Thursday and Miami-Dade County on Friday. The system is moving northeastward and away from South Florida.

Jerry, the 10th named storm of this year's Atlantic Hurricane Season, was 960 miles east of the Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm is expected to become a hurricane as it approaches the northern Leeward islands Friday into Saturday morning, CNN meteorologist Michael Guy said. The storm is moving west-northwest at 13 mph and could also impact the Lesser Antilles by early Saturday morning, Guy said. Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Imelda is expected to dump heavy rain -- as much as 15 inches in two days -- over eastern Texas and Louisiana, CNN meteorologist Pedram Javaheri said.
