Rajindhar Ramsingh, 56, and Ronald Ramsingh, 51, were arrested again and booked into jail Wednesday evening. They were already facing charges in an ongoing case, with FBI involvement, along with 68-year-old Code Compliance Director James Young.
Rajindhar Ramsingh faces seven counts of official misconduct after prosecutors said he “knowingly and intentionally falsified, concealed, covered up, or altered multiple official building permit records across a range of properties” in Key West.
One of those permits was for his own home at 2827 Harris Ave., prosecutors said in a news release.
“The offenses, committed between 2021 and 2024, are alleged to have benefited Ramsingh personally, Strykker-Avery Homes LLC, and several property owners, including himself‚” the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office news release states.
Keys Weekly reports that Ronald Ramsingh’s single count of official misconduct is for “interfering with the reporting of a felony committed by his brother,” according to an indictment.
“This case reflects the serious consequences of abusing a public position for personal or financial gain,” Monroe County State Attorney Dennis Ward said in part in a statement. “Our office will continue to hold government officials accountable when they violate the public’s trust and manipulate the systems they are sworn to uphold.”
Key West city commissioners are set to meet Thursday to decide whether to fire Ronald Ramsingh for cause or without cause, Keys Weekly reports.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jail records show that both brothers posted bond roughly an hour after each were booked.
Ronald Ramsingh’s bond had been set at $25,000, while Rajindhar Ramsingh’s bond had been set at $175,000.
