Chef Michael Schwartz joins fight against food insecurity in Miami-Dade

Chef Michael Schwartz has joined the fight against food insecurity.

The award-winning restauranteur turned Michael’s Genuine in the Design District and Amara at Paraiso in Edgewater into powerhouses for change.

Schwartz partnered with Rethink Food Miami, a nonprofit organization that aims to help the 10.4% who experience food insecurity in Miami-Dade County.

Schwartz helps to support the efforts of Pack Super Market, Great Fried Chicken, Le Jardin, and Cecibon.

“People who have food insecurity, they have jobs, they have families, but maybe their incomes don’t support them in a way that gives them the security to know where their next meal is going to come from,” Schwartz said. “They work in various ways to provide people assistance.”

Schwartz said the mission has served about 200,000 meals and raised more than $1 million.

“We want other people to do what we’re doing or some variation of what we’re doing,” Schwartz said. “I think if more people did it, we could solve the food insecurity problem.”
