MIAMI – The Tri-Rail commuter rail service connecting Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will not run on Wednesday or Thursday as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
Forecast winds of above 39 mph are forcing the railroads to secure crossing gates, according to officials with the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, which operates Tri-Rail.

“We have been monitoring the storm all week and the NOAA forecast just changed this afternoon for Palm Beach County, so we will start the process of securing the railroad after Tri-Rail’s last train tonight,” SFRTA Executive Director David Dech said in a statement. “We ask our passengers to make their own preparations for their homes and stay safe during the storm.”
Amtrak and CSX freight services along the corridor are being suspended as well.
“SFRTA plans to initiate the railroad restoration process Thursday evening, aiming to resume regular service on Friday, as long as it has been determined to be safe,” a news release states.
