Miami-Dade man kept going to Goodwill to record women changing, cops say

He’s now facing 3 felonies

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 25-year-old man was seen on three separate occasions recording women changing in the fitting rooms of a west Miami-Dade thrift store, police said, leading to his arrest on Monday.

According to Miami-Dade police, the incidents happened at the Goodwill Superstore at 9760 SW Eighth St., about a mile east of Florida International University.

Police said Diego Jose Rosales Morillo first recorded a woman on Aug. 22, 2023. An arrest report states that the victim noticed his cellphone while she looked in the mirror.

The report states that the woman immediately got dressed and confronted Rosales Morillo, who “apologized” and said he “deleted” the video; police said he left the store before the woman could notify staff or police.

On July 9, police said the store manager recognized Rosales Morillo from the previous incident, tracked him throughout the store and discovered that he “reached over the partition between the changing rooms while holding a telephone in the same fashion and video recorded a female victim.”

The third incident happened Aug. 12, police said. Rosales Morillo is accused of doing the exact same thing as in the other two incidents, all of which police said were recorded on store surveillance cameras.

Authorities said they tracked down Rosales Morillo near his home in the Tamiami section of west Miami-Dade; they said he admitted to being in the store on those dates but denied recording anyone, claiming he was just taking “selfie photos.”

Police arrested the Venezuelan national on three video voyeurism charges. Court records show he bonded out of jail on Tuesday.

In a statement, a Goodwill Industries spokesperson said it “does not tolerate outrageous and illegal behavior.”

“The safety and well-being of our staff and customers is our top priority,” the statement continues. “Quick action by our store manager helped the police identify this individual and led to the arrest. We remain committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment in our stores and will continue cooperating with the authorities.”
