SUNRISE, Fla. – A Lauderhill police officer is facing a video voyeurism charge after authorities arrested him on Tuesday.
Johnny Alejandro Mateo, 42, was arrested by the Sunrise Police Department. Mateo lives in Sunrise, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant and arrest affidavit do not outline the allegations that led to his arrest.
State law defines digital video voyeurism as anyone who disseminates such material or who “intentionally uses or installs an imaging device to secretly view, broadcast, or record a person, without that person’s knowledge and consent” in area where privacy is expected.
According to the Lauderhill Police Department, they were notified by Sunrise PD about an open investigation into a Lauderhill police officer stemming from an off-duty incident.
That same day, Mateo was arrested.
According to a 2022 Lauderhill Police Department social media post, Mateo worked at one point as a detective in the agency’s traffic homicide division.
He has been placed on administrative leave, Lauderhill PD said in a statement.
