Miami police car rolls over on Biscayne Boulevard following brief pursuit

MIAMI – A Miami police vehicle was flipped onto its side after a crash along Biscayne Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection with Northeast 82nd Street in the city’s Upper East Side neighborhood.

Officials said police were behind a suspect in a white Audi who was wanted in a shooting out of Palm Beach County when undercover detectives performed a PIT maneuver.

Video from Sky 10 taken just after 2:10 p.m. showed an unmarked sedan on its side.

Miami police said the agency’s Tactical Robbery Unit “was behind a vehicle that had been involved in a prior shooting” just before the crash.

Three of the agency’s vehicles were involved in the wreck, “causing one of the cars to roll over,” police said.

“Miami Fire Rescue responded but did not transport any of the officers,” a police spokesperson said.

Police blocked off Biscayne Boulevard as they investigated.

Authorities said the passenger in the Audi was who was wanted in connection to the shooting, but the female driver was also taken into custody after she refused to stop for police.

Detectives from Palm Beach County are expected to come down to Miami-Dade to interview the driver and the suspect.
