MIAMI – A homeless man once described as a “sexually violent predator” approached a teen sitting on a bench outside loanDepot Park in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood over the weekend, kidnapped her and sexually battered her three times, police said.

Miami police said it happened just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.

According to an arrest report, the 14-year-old had been kicked out of her home the night before and was sitting on a bench outside of the baseball stadium at Northwest Seventh Street and 14th Avenue when Akil Nathaniel Cousins approached her.

Cousins, 27, was arrested in November for following a woman from the Dadeland South Metrorail station in Kendall, exposing himself and masturbating; Miami-Dade police identified him as a “sexually violent predator” at the time. County court records show he was convicted of indecent exposure, escape and resisting arrest in April.

Police said on Sunday, Cousins grabbed the girl’s hand and took her into an apartment building across the street and accessed its lobby.

As they waited for an elevator, police said Cousins dropped his pants and forced the victim to perform oral sex on him; he did the same thing after they got into the elevator.

Police said after they got out on the sixth floor, Cousins and the girl helped a woman bring groceries inside her apartment. The girl whispered into the woman’s ear, “call the police,” but the woman didn’t, the report states.

Authorities said while waiting for the elevator to go back down, he sexually battered her a third time.

Police said the victim was able to get away from Cousins and walk to the Iglesia Camino De Fe church at 1320 NW Seventh St., where she was able to get someone to call police.

The report states that officers were able to locate Cousins after someone at the nearby Brisas Del Rio building, located at 850 NW 13th Court, called police to report that he was “exposing his penis in a lewd and lascivious manner” outside the senior apartment complex.

Police said Cousins admitted to the sexual assaults and claimed that the girl had waved him over beforehand.

The report states that he told detectives that he followed her out the door “thinking they were going to her house to get a condom.”

Later, during prisoner processing, Cousins expressed anger to officers that the girl “didn’t finish” and took his penis out and began masturbating shortly after.

In the latest case, a judge found probable cause to charge him with three counts of sexual battery on a victim aged 12 to 17, kidnapping and indecent exposure.

He’s being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on those charges, plus on an unrelated grand theft auto charge and a warrant for leaving the scene of a crash.
