MIAMI – Summertime in Miami is hot. But last month was historically hot.
July was the city's warmest month on record since the National Weather Service began keeping temperature records in 1896.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the average temperature for July was 85.7 degrees, breaking the previous record of 85.5 degrees set in June 2010.
Temperatures in Miami have also been the warmest to this point in the year. The average temperature from January to July was 78.4 degrees, breaking the record of 78 degrees in 2015.
Miami has had 24 days in 2017 with a daily low temperature warmer than 80 degrees. That breaks the previous record set through 13 such days in July 1998.
Conversely, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach only topped 83 degrees and 82 degrees, respectively, Tuesday, tying the coolest high temperature on record for that date, set in 1933.
