Hurricane survival guide: Supply kit checklist includes ice

When a hurricane is approaching, it's important to pay attention to your fridge and your freezer.

Seafood, ground meats, leftovers and soft cheeses will be the first perishable contents in your refrigerator four to six hours after the power goes out. Eat it first.Ā

The bigger the ice, the longer it will last. Chest freezers and some 30 pounds of dry ice, which should never be touched with bare hands. There are coolers that can be powered with car batteries.Ā
