The severe weather has led to multiple school closures across the Big Bend region.

Kevin Guthrie, director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, warned that northern Florida is bracing for a “snow event,” with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected in the Panhandle.

“Roads will become icy and hazardous. If you don’t need to be on the road, stay off it,” Guthrie urged.

DeSantis on Monday declared a state of emergency as the Panhandle and other parts of North Florida get hit with frigid weather and face the possibility of snow and ice.
