“We’re still seeing some areas with very light showers over the Florida Bay, near Florida City and Homestead,” Local 10 meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said during Saturday’s 10 a.m. weather forecast. “But things are improving tremendously as we head throughout this morning.”

Skies are expected to clear as lower-level clouds gradually move out.

Sheerwood said temperatures started mild, with readings of 74 degrees in Miami and 75 degrees in Fort Lauderdale.

With a southerly wind flow in place and a warm front situated north of the region, Sheerwood predicted temperatures would climb to 80 degrees Saturday afternoon.

“Warmer temperatures and sunshine will build in, so get ready for it,” Sheerwood said.

Sunday’s forecast calls for mostly dry conditions with a high of 83 degrees, but Sheerwood cautioned that showers could return ahead of an approaching cold front.

South Florida residents and visitors should prepare for a mix of sunshine and occasional showers as the weekend progresses.
