The coldest temps in 2 years will arrive in South Florida later this week

A cold front is heading down the state of Florida. It won’t arrive until later Monday, so highs across South Florida will warm up to the 80s during the day.

Monday was a slightly warmer morning than the past few days but was still a comfortable start to get you back to work and the kids back to school.

Lows were in the 60s and low 70s.

Rain chances increase as the pre-front moisture is possible across parts of South Florida Monday evening.

Once the front clears, the winds will pick up, and morning lows are expected to drop to the 50s Tuesday morning, but the frigid cold blast of artic air won’t arrive until Wednesday morning.

Lows are expected in the 40s Wednesday morning, which will be the coldest air Miami has felt since January 2023. Bundle up and be safe with any space heaters.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), space heaters are most often responsible for home heating fires. Follow these tips on how to safely heat your home:

  • If you must use a space heater, never leave it unattended. Place it on a level, hard and nonflammable surface, such as a ceramic tile floor. Don’t place it on rugs and carpets, or near bedding and drapes.
  • Plug space heater power cords directly into outlets — never into an extension cord. Turn the space heater off every time you leave the room or go to sleep.
  • Keep children, pets and anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment.
  • Never use a cooking range or oven to heat your home.

The chilly weather will stay for the rest of the work week with a warm up back to nearly 80 degrees in time for the weekend.
