Strong cold front to bring higher chance of storms for South Florida

Grab your rain gear -- all eyes are on the big chill headed our way by Friday.

A strong cold front will bring a better chance for storms Wednesday before the coldest air of the season arrives by Friday.

The front will clear by Thursday, providing for drier, less humid, chilly air to arrive by Friday. Morning lows will drop to the 50s Friday and stay that chilly for the weekend.

In addition to the local weather, the tropics are quiet. Local 10 meteorologist Julie Durda also said this may be the last week of any tropical cyclone concerns, adding to the optimism for what she believes will be a gorgeous week ahead.

While the system and remnants of Sara will no longer be tropical in nature, it’s forecasted to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Gulf Coast. South Florida may see scattered showers as the cold front sweeps through, followed by a drop in temperatures, especially during the mornings.

While the storm’s leftover moisture is expected to reach South Florida, it won’t bring the intense winds and rainfall seen in Central America.

Currently, a high-pressure system off the coast is bringing easterly winds and cloudy skies, but dry air aloft is preventing significant rain from falling. The remnants of Sarah are currently moving off the Yucatán and into the western Gulf of Mexico, while also connecting to a cold front over southern Louisiana.
