Sandbag distributions held in Miami-Dade, Broward as Helene may bring rain threat to area

Although Hurricane Helene is not expected to hit South Florida, it could still bring some rain to the area, prompting Miami-Dade and Broward county officials to hold sandbag distributions this week.

Residents of the following cities may pick up free sandbags at the following locations. Residents must show ID to provide proof of residency.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

MIAMI BEACH

Wednesday, Sept. 25

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sandbags available at two surface parking lot locations:

2100 Collins Ave. (east of Collins Park) and 225 79th St.

Sandbags will be pre-filled and there is a limit of four per household.

BROWARD COUNTY

FORT LAUDERDALE

Staffed Sandbag Pickup Schedule:

Wednesday, Sept. 25

Time: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Location: Shirley Small Park (1230 SW 34th Ave.)

Sand is also available for self-service at both locations below every day during the following hours for those who bring their own sandbags and shovels.

Self-Serve Schedule:

Daily, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Locations:

Floyd Hull Stadium (2800 SW 8th Ave.)

Mills Pond Park (2201 NW 9th Ave.)

Please note, there is a limit of five bags per vehicle.

DANIA BEACH

Wednesday, Sept. 25

4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Frost Park (entrance on Fronton Blvd. and Northeast Second Street).

DEERFIELD BEACH

Wednesday, Sept. 25

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

210 Goolsby Blvd.

Residents are advised to enter the facility northbound from Goolsby Boulevard. No entrance to the facility will be permitted from the southbound approach on Goolsby Boulevard.

There is a limit of 10 bags per household.
