Heat advisory extended for South Florida

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The National Weather Service has extended a heat advisory for all of South Florida through Tuesday night.

The heat advisory begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday and expires at 6 p.m.

Peak heat indices of 105 to 110 degrees can be expected across much of South Florida.

With this nonstop heat and humidity Tuesday and a plume of Saharan dust, rain chances remain low. If you have respiratory issues, please limit your time outside as the air quality is at moderate levels.

The NWS in Miami advises the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room if possible and stay out of the sun.

Those who work outdoors are advised to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and limit strenuous activities.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location, and if someone appears to be suffering a heat stroke, call 911.
