PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A heat advisory was issued Friday morning for South Florida, from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County.
The heat advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Local 10 meteorologist Brandon Orr said the temperature will be a little hotter than we’ve seen the last couple of days due to a shift in the wind direction. Instead of coming from the west, it’s now coming in from the south, pumping in some extra humidity as well, sending the heat index as hot as 109 degrees.
Storms later in the day are expected to cool the area down.
The National Weather Service in Miami advises the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room if possible and stay out of the sun.
Those who work outdoors are advised to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and limit strenuous activities.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location, and if someone appears to be suffering a heat stroke, call 911.
