A dry Fathers’ Day to help recovery after days of flooding in South Florida

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Drier conditions move in on Sunday when families celebrate Father’s Day without the threat of flooding in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy. There were scattered showers on Saturday and Friday after three days of heavy rainfall flooded some areas in both counties causing property damage, covering some roads, and prompting evacuations.

The American Red Cross opened a new temporary homeless shelter at the Griffing Community Center, at 12220 Griffing Boulevard, in North Miami, where many lost their homes and their cars.

Public works crews were working to clear drains. Two truck drivers were still removing stranded cars from roads. Fire rescue personnel continued to check on vulnerable residents. For more information about the weather forecast, visit this page.
