High waters still seen in Hallandale Beach after days of heavy downpours

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A Flood Watch remains in effect for South Florida Friday, as more showers are expected throughout the day.

Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez was in the area of Southwest Third Street and Ninth Avenue in Hallandale Beach Friday as some stalled cars were still waiting to be towed away.

ā€œItā€™s been something that Iā€™ve never experienced in my life before,ā€ Gievan Rodriguez said. ā€œIn the five years that Iā€™ve been here, I know that thereā€™s been slight flooding but nothing like this. We had to help this lady that was a grandmother with a grandchild and the water was up to the ā€“ probably where the lever of the car is.ā€

Although more rain could trigger additional isolated South Florida flooding on Friday, forecasters say the strong, persistent storms that dumped up to 20 inches in southern parts of the state appear to have passed.

ā€œThe northeast section of the city is mostly clear, but the southwest section is still experiencing some standing water,ā€ a city spokeswoman said in an email to Local 10. ā€œAreas around SW 3rd and 9th Avenue are particularly affected by flooding. We anticipate that the remaining floodwaters will recede by Saturday evening. Mobile pumps have been deployed in these areas and elsewhere as needed.ā€

According to the spokeswoman, the Department of Public Works has dispatched street sweeper trucks to clean roads in dry areas.
