Heavy rainfall expected for South Florida this week, localized flooding is main concern

MIAMI – The National Weather Service said heavy rainfall is expected across South Florida this week, increasing in coverage and intensity beginning Monday night and extending into the mid-week period.

According to the NWS, the heaviest rainfall is expected near the Gulf Coast sometime beyond Wednesday night, into the end of the week.

“Localized flooding will be possible and is the main concern, especially for low-lying areas along the East Coast and Gulf Coast metros and other flood prone or poor drainage areas,” the NWS reported in a news release Monday. “A slight risk for excessive rainfall has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center for Tuesday through Friday.”
