Heavy rainfall expected for South Florida this week, localized flooding is main concern

MIAMI ā€“ The National Weather Service said heavy rainfall is expected across South Florida this week, increasing in coverage and intensity beginning Monday night and extending into the mid-week period.

According to the NWS, the heaviest rainfall is expected near the Gulf Coast sometime beyond Wednesday night, into the end of the week.

ā€œLocalized flooding will be possible and is the main concern, especially for low-lying areas along the East Coast and Gulf Coast metros and other flood prone or poor drainage areas,ā€ the NWS reported in a news release Monday. ā€œA slight risk for excessive rainfall has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center for Tuesday through Friday.ā€
