MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā Memorial Day was off to another warm and humid start, but South Florida residents and visitors could see scattered thunderstorms late Monday evening.
After breaking record-high temperatures over the weekend, Mondayās temperatures are expected to continue that trend with highs in the mid-90s, and residents/ visitors should expect heat indices in the 100s, according to Local 10 Meteorologist Julie Durda.
Durda said mostly dry conditions will continue so South Floridians and visitors can enjoy their outdoor activities until the evening.
According to Durda, when you factor in the relative humidity to the air temperature, it feels like 94 degrees in Key West and 84 degrees in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Not much rainfall is expected on Monday, but South Florida could see a stray shower as the sea breeze continues to develop. Most of the storms will stay over parts of inland Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
South Florida residents are advised to remain vigilant for the sea breeze, which Local 10 Meteorologist Peta Sheerwood says is typical for this time of year, as it may lead to isolated showers throughout the rest of the week.
āThis pattern will break as the week progresses, with rain chances increasing, particularly from Tuesday through Thursday,ā said Sheerwood.
The severe storms associated with a passing front are expected to remain north of the region, stalling over North Florida, where showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop, especially in the afternoons.
Sherwood said chances of rain are expected to remain high throughout the week, offering potential relief to the abnormally dry conditions in Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
Beachgoers are also being urged to put on sunscreen frequently, as temperatures soar into the 90s.
According to Durda, South Florida may see a few hit-or-miss showers by the coastline around 5 p.m. as sea breeze storms continue to develop into Tuesday.
