BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A flood watch and wind advisory were issued Friday morning for portions of South Florida including Miami-Dade, Broward, mainland Monroe and Palm Beach counties.
Additionally, a tornado watch was issued for the three South Florida counties that will remain in effect until 3 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, three to six inches of rainfall is possible until late Saturday evening.
Excessive runoff may result in the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the National Weather Service reported.
According to Local 10 News Meteorologist Brandon Julie Durda, the first round of rainstorms arrived early Friday in the Florida Keys and are expected to arrive in Broward and Miami-Dade counties late Friday morning then multiple rounds through Saturday afternoon with dry breaks in between.
Considerable rainfall is forecast across most of South Florida and totals will be dependent on the exact evolution and track of the low-pressure system.
There is a marginal risk for severe weather for Miami-Dade, Monroe and portions of Broward and Collier plus a slight risk across far southern Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
Severe-level wind gusts, hail and even an isolated tornado will be possible on Friday.
Durda said gusty winds will occur with this system with sustained winds 20-30 mph and gusts to 40 mph possible.
Stronger gusts will be possible with any thunderstorms up to severe level (60 mph).
A Gale Watch has been issued for the Atlantic waters Friday night, and the previous Wind Advisory and Flood Watch remain in effect.
A flood watch is also in effect for coastal and inland portions of Collier County.
Sunday is expected to be drier with lower humidity, according to the NWS.
