Desperation sets in as drivers scour for gas ahead of Hurricane Irma

South Florida residents wake up early to fill tanks

WEST PARK, Fla. – As desperation sets in to get away from the path of Hurricane Irma, people are waking up in the early morning hours to scour for gas.

Local 10 News found a Marathon gas station at the corner of U.S. Highway 441 and Pembroke Road in West Park that had fuel, although not all pumps were operational.

A line of vehicles wrapped onto U.S. Highway 441 as drivers waited patiently to fill their tanks.

There was a $30 limit on gas per person.

One gas station owner in Davie told Local 10 that he wasn't expecting another shipment of fuel before Irma arrives.
