The postal service originally said it would remain open and and that its emergency management team would continue to monitor the storm. However, the decision was made to close early.

U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Debbie Fetterly said mail service is suspended from Miami-Dade County north to St. Lucie County. Fetterly said all mail carriers have been instructed to return to their respective post offices no later than 1 p.m.

She said mail delivery will continue in the Florida Keys.
