Early voting surges in South Florida

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Early voting is in full swing across South Florida, and we are now getting a look at how many people in our area have already made their voices heard this election season.

In Miami-Dade County, campaigners were out hyping up early voters from their designated spaces outside of polling sites.

“I’m here early because I know next week is going to be jammed,” voter Johanna La Rosa said.

Alvin Pondexter, a Miami Gardens resident, said, it took “no time at all. I’m here less than 30 minutes, so in and out very quick.”

In Broward County, voters in Hallandale Beach also dropped off their mail-in ballots.

“I feel real good about voting today,” voter Richard Gordon said. “I’ve got stuff to do next week, so I’m just doing it now.”

And voting early in person is one big check off their to-do list.

Voters across both counties said this is an election they cannot and will not sit out.

“Get out here, don’t be lazy, come out and vote and make a difference for America,” voter Sophia Smith.

As of Tuesday evening, more than 200,000 people had cast ballots in person and by mail in Miami-Dade, while more than 150,000 votes in Broward.
