Rosie Cordero-Stutz selected Republican nominee for Miami-Dade sheriff

Miami-Dade County voters pick nominees for first sheriff in over 60 years

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County is holding its first sheriff election in over 60 years, with 11 Republican and four Democratic candidates competing in the Primary Election.

Rosie Cordero-Stutz was selected the Republican nominee, with 24% of the votes. Joe Sanchez trailed close behind her with 22% of the votes.

“I really do wish somewhere in my gut that this was not a partisan race,” Cordero-Stutz said Tuesday night. “Unfortunately it is. I will say this. For 28 years, I’ve provided service to this county, and it did not matter what my party was. If there’s any good example of future behavior, it is past behavior.”

“Rosie has been serving in the Miami-Dade Police Department for over 28 years, and her experience, qualifications and proven track record make her the ideal candidate for Sheriff of Miami-Dade County,” her campaign website states. “Electing Rosie as Sheriff will ensure that Miami-Dade’s law enforcement is in the best hands.”

Cordero-Stutz will face Democratic candidate James Reyes in the General Election in November.
