MIAMI – Uber is coming to Key West.
The transportation network company announced Wednesday that it will begin services Saturday in Key West.

Uber's announcement comes amid new statewide regulations for app-based transportation services like Uber and Lyft.
A new Florida law that takes effect Saturday regulates ride-sharing services on a statewide level, rather than leaving it to the municipalities.
Key West passed an ordinance in 2015 that made it illegal for Uber drivers to operate without the proper vehicle-for-hire licenses. Uber drivers found to be in violation faced up to 60 days in jail and a possible $500 fine.
State Sen. Anitere Flores, R-Miami, and Rep. Holly Raschein, R-Key Largo, praised Uber's expansion into Key West.
"Florida Keys residents and visitors will now be able to more easily move throughout our communities," Raschein said in a statement provided by Uber. "Just as important, our local businesses will benefit from increased accessibility."
Uber already operates elsewhere throughout the Florida Keys.
The company is celebrating by offering Miami and Key West Uber users free Key lime pie, supplied by Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe.

- App users in the participating areas (map below - Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Downtown/Brickell, Kendall, and Miami Beach) can open the app on Friday, June 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

How to Get Your Key Lime Pie Slice in Key West:
- Head to the Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe located at 200 Elizabeth Street, Key West, Florida 33040, on Friday, June 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Both Uber riders and drivers can participate.
- Simply show the downloaded Uber rider or driver app, and receive a free slice of chocolate covered Key lime pie while supplies last.
