According to the Florida Department of Transportation, FDOT, along with engineering and infrastructure specialists, closed the eastbound lanes of the highway at Northwest 17th Avenue to inspect an overhead bridge support structure just west of Interstate 95.

The area reopened at about 2 p.m.

Detour signs were posted along the affected areas.

These were the instructions:

  • Exit at NW 17th Avenue, then continue south across NW 7th Street
  • Turn left at SW 1st Street and continue east
  • Turn right at South Miami Avenue
  • Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
  • Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1st Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11th Terrace.

“Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound SR 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above,” an FDOT news release stated.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 95, which had been shut down from Northwest 62nd Street to the Dolphin Expressway were also reopened, easing congestion in the area.

The eastbound Julia Tuttle Causeway also experienced delays due to a closure at Alton Road.

The Miami Beach Police Department also warned drivers of “intermittent and extended road closures” between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after President Donald Trump spoke at a Saudi investment conference in the city.

Parking was prohibited from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the area of Collins Avenue and Indian Creek Drive, from 30th to 41st streets, officials said.

Authorities urge drivers to remain cautious and follow posted detours as traffic conditions improve.

A reason for the emergency inspection was not immediately disclosed.
