That’s why Freeform is the hottest channel to visit during the month of October, because it has its annual “31 Nights of Halloween," and the network finally released its schedule of movies. MIAMI – The South’s painful past comes back to haunt moviegoers in the new horror thriller “Antebellum.”The movie is the brain child of Miami filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, who left their successful South Florida public relations firm in 2017 to make their Hollywood dreams come true. “When we got here, it was within six months that we had a bidding war for our first picture, which is ‘Antebellum,’” Bush said. “Antebellum” is their first feature, a horror film not just on its surface, but at its core. The film resonates loudly with the social challenges our nation is facing right now in confronting its fractured past. With nods to Gone with the Wind, Bush and Renz wanted to set the record straight and show the Antebellum South how it really was, making moviegoers not just jump out of their seats, but also think.

Since there’s likely to be a good chunk of people who will watch “Hamilton” over the weekend who’ve probably never seen it before, here is a quick rundown of what you need to know before experiencing the phenomenon. The “Hamilton” on Disney+ is a filmed version of the show, not a movie. It’s easy to call the version of “Hamilton” coming out on Disney+ a movie, but technically, it’s the stage version, filmed. An actual movie version of “Hamilton” will probably happen eventually, but this is a great way to really capture the magic of the stage version of the show. And because the people at Disney are incredibly smart, free trials of the streaming service have ended, so if you want to watch, you’re going to have to sign up.

Now more than ever it’s so important to lift up and amplify black artists and creators, which is why a new film festival was created to do just that. The inaugural Black Life Film Fest will take place Sept. 5, and luckily for people who are interested in watching the selected films, the film festival will happen virtually, from the comfort of your home. Swirl Films and Mansa Productions are producing the festival, and the people there are asking for short film submissions that fit any kind of category. From documentaries and comedies to drama or animation -- as long as the film shows the black experience, it is eligible for submission. Netflix‘13th’Directed by Ava DuVernay (she’ll come up again in this list), the documentary shows you how America changed after the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery, but also kickstarted the prison boom in America. ‘Moonlight’This Oscar-winning picture tells the story of a young black gay man living in Miami. chronicles the Central Park Five, a group of young black teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of a crime they didn’t commit. The documentary tells the story of the days of protests, unrest and riots that followed. It’s a great film that shows how two different groups of people can react to fatal police shootings.

Luckily for us, there are tons of films that have gone on to become major movie franchises, with sequel after sequel bringing back some of the most beloved characters of all time. So, if you want to take a break from binging “The Office” for the 10th time and want to dig in to some classics, consider watching these movie franchises from front to back. ‘Star Wars’Writer and director George Lucas created a movie about a team of rebels fighting evil in a galaxy far, far away, and it’s gone on to become one of the most influential movie franchises of all time. ‘Toy Story’A lot of the movie franchises are for teens and adults, but the “Toy Story” movies are great because the entire family can enjoy them. ‘Marvel’Anyone who has gone to see a Marvel movie knows that there are a ton of them.

But we have to assume you’ve finished the show by now, which leads us to this next question: What will you watch next? Since the rest of the “Star Wars” movies are on Disney+, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it pop up there soon. It’s a psychological thriller that probably isn’t for everyone, but it is available to purchase and watch at home.

If the Hollywood mantra for making blockbusters is “faster, faster, faster,” then the creators of “Sonic the Hedgehog” have wisely ignored it. MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Childhood actor Shaun Weiss, who starred in “The Mighty Ducks,” series was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary and being under the influence of methamphetamine. Police discovered Weiss, 41, after a California homeowner alerted police that a stranger was sitting inside a car parked in the caller’s garage, USA Today reports. Weiss had broken the passenger window of the vehicle and was going through the items inside when found by police. According to the police report, Weiss “displayed symptoms of being under the influence of methamphetamine.”Weiss was previously arrested in 2018 for public intoxication. After starring as the team goalie in three “Mighty Ducks” movies, Weiss appeared in several television shows, including “Boy Meets World,” “Charles in Charge,” and “Freaks and Geeks.”

NEW YORK – Oscar-winning director Woody Allen is suing Amazon Studios for breach of contract, claiming it reneged on a deal to finance and distribute his future films without legal basis. According to the lawsuit, Amazon backed out of its agreement with Allen and his production company in June after Dylan Farrow became more vocal about her accusation that her father had molested her. "Amazon has tried to excuse its action by referencing a 25-year-old, baseless allegation against Mr. Allen, but that allegation was already well known to Amazon (and the public) before Amazon entered into four separate deals with Mr. Allen -- and, in any event it does not provide a basis for Amazon to terminate the contract," the lawsuit said. According to the lawsuit, Amazon entered into an agreement with Allen's Gravier Productions to finance and distribute at least four Allen films. The lawsuit claims Allen completed the first, "A Rainy Day in New York," when Amazon "simply refused to make its guaranteed payment and purported to terminate" the contract.

LOS ANGELES – The "Top Gun" sequel is going to take a little longer to land in theaters. Paramount Pictures said Wednesday that "Top Gun: Maverick" is being pushed back a year to a June 26, 2020 theatrical release. The sequel was originally set to be released July 12, 2019. Details of the sequel, which is currently in production, have been mostly kept top secret, but Val Kilmer is also set to return as Iceman. There has been no word if Ryan, Skerritt or McGillis will return for the sequel.

So, when writer-director Rian Johnson called him to ask if he'd be interested being the eighth episode of the Skywalker family saga, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," Heinrichs was a bit taken aback. I think every person who takes on a new episode in 'Star Wars,' in the best way possible, wants to take it to the next step. PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – "Saturday Night Fever" is dancing back into theaters for its 40th anniversary. A never-before-seen director's cut of the film will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 7 and May 10 at select theaters. The soundtrack featured several Bee Gees hits, including "Stayin' Alive," "How Deep Is Your Love," "Night Fever," "More Than a Woman" and "You Should Be Dancing."
