Detectives released surveillance video on Tuesday morning showing the alleged May 3 armed robbery in Oakland Park. The victim was fixing his boat about 10:30 p.m. in front of his home when the men demanded that he hand over his wallet, deputies said. The robbers didn’t hurt him and ran away. According to authorities, the victim, who was at the motel with a lady companion, stepped out of his room and was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife and one who was armed with a gun. The robbers followed the victim into his room and a tussle ensued as both robbers struck the victim, authorities said. The victim ran out of the room and flagged down a Miami police officer who was driving along Biscayne Boulevard, police said. The second robber was wearing a black sweater, blue jeans and a red bandanna covering the lower portion of his face.

The robbery was reported just before 9 p.m. Monday outside the Chase bank branch at 711 N. University Drive. The Pembroke Pines Police Department’s SWAT and K-9 units responded to the scene after the shooting, but the culprits weren’t found. Detectives believe the crooks could have been involved in two similar armed robberies that occurred in Hollywood just prior to the Pembroke Pines incident.
