She and members of the support group have been doing welfare checks on the public housing residents. “Bullets have actually landed on top of the roof of these seniors’ house,” Dukes said. Two police officers walked around the neighborhood with the Mothers Fighting for Justice members.

Miami-Dade police detectives identified the victim as Nathaniel Hearns. Officers found him dead Saturday night near the intersection of Southwest 176th Street, also known as West Indigo Street, and Homestead Avenue. The crime scene was near the Perrine Community Action Center and the Kerr Memorial United Methodist Church.
