The tropical Atlantic has settled back into a characteristically quiet state for late June after an unprecedented start – including two named storms in the main development region in June, the first occurrence in the modern record – to the hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Cindy remained strong Saturday morning, but it isn’t expected to last for long while Tropical Storm Bret continued to weaken, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Just before the start of the 2023 hurricane season, forecasters stated that this season would be a “tricky” one to figure out.

Tropical Storm Bret continued its westward plod overnight toward the eastern Caribbean and is expected to move near or over the east-central Caribbean islands – including Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica – starting later today.
