The impact of the initial collision sent the SUV into a third vehicle, Camacho said. Paramedics transported two people who were riding in the garbage truck to Kendall Regional Medical Center. Camacho said the passenger of the truck jumped from vehicle before it hit the building, possibly saving that person's life. It serves as a recording studio for Estefan and her family.

The crash took place about 10:15 p.m. on West Atlantic Boulevard, just east of North Powerline Road, a spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. The victim was crossing West Atlantic Boulevard, heading north, at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators don’t have any information to release on the vehicle that hit the person.

One of the drivers ran away from the crash scene near Stirling Road and ran into a nearby restaurant. Police rushed to Moonlite Diner, 3500 Oakwood Blvd., and told the manager that all of the restaurants patrons had to walk out with their hands up. A man was detained and then released, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Hollywood Police spokesman Jamie Hernandez said the suspect was not in custody.

The cost of the logging device would also fall on the truck drivers, who need to have one running by Dec. 16, 2017, according to the rule. "It's sad because a lot of people are losing their trucks," trucker Randy Avila said.
