Local 10 News is proud to announce that it has named meteorologist Michael Lowry as the station’s new Hurricane Specialist and Storm Surge Expert.

Shortly upon deciding to leave The Weather Channel as its on-air Hurricane Specialist and Storm Surge Expert at the end of 2016, I received a phone call from Bill Pohovey, the long-time vice president and news director at WPLG – Miami’s local ABC affiliate. Having been a one-time resident of Miami, I knew the station letters well. I also knew its team of meteorologists, including Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis, also a Weather Channel alum, and its resident Hurricane Specialist Max Mayfield, a colleague, friend, and former National Hurricane Center Director. I don’t remember the details of our conversation – it was brief – though I do remember the impression it left. This local station knew its niche – hurricanes – and it had a plan to not only cover them best, but to cover them better than the rest. The timing for me, though, didn’t quite fit.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A U.S. Army serviceman sent a message to Local 10 News Tuesday saying that "the U.S. Army here in Iraq" was feeling the pain of Todd Tongen's death. Alexander Gonzalez, who is serving in Iraq, also said he wanted his family and everyone in the newsroom to know that during their time off overseas they enjoyed watching the news with Tongen. "We feel your pain," Gonzalez said, adding that they were hoping to invite Tongen to have Thanksgiving dinner with them in Iraq this year. The veteran Local 10 News anchor was found dead on Monday morning at his home in Broward County's Southwest Ranches. He received the Associated Press Award and an Emmy Award and was recognized for his community service in South Florida.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Local 10 News sports anchor Clay Ferraro and his wife, Kristen Rogers Ferraro, welcomed their third daughter into the world Monday. Abrielle Grace Ferraro was born at 12:12 a.m., weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces. Abrielle is putting up good numbers already, as she came out only four minutes and 30 seconds after the doctor came into the room. "She was really excited to see the world," Ferraro said in a Facebook post. Ferraro said mom and baby are "doing great."
