MIAMI – A 2-year-old girl is stable after falling from a fourth floor window of an apartment building in Miami, authorities confirmed. Ignatius Carroll said the toddler was spared significant injuries because a palm tree below the window helped slow down the speed of the fall and the girl landed on shrubs. “This is something that’s a miracle but could’ve easily been a tragedy,” Miami Police Commander Freddie Cruz said. Crime scene detectives are now trying to figure out what led up to the fall and if the little girl’s parents bear any responsibility. “Our investigators are talking to family members to see if there was any negligence and what exactly occurred,” Cruz said.

MIAMI – A large hole was left in the side of the Brickell Buick & GMC dealership in Miami early Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into a motorcyclist and then into the building. The dealership is located off Southwest Eighth Street and Sixth Avenue. Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said the motorcyclist was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in very serious condition. Witnesses said the vehicle involved in the collision was a luxury car. The vehicle has since been towed from the scene and Southwest Eighth Street has reopened to traffic.

MIAMI – Officers warned a man attempted to abduct a woman on Thursday near Coral Gables. Detectives responded about 12:20 p.m. to an area at Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 55th Avenue. The woman managed to get away from the stranger, but police officers are asking anyone with information about the attempted abduction to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. Sky 10 was above the University Office Center at Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street, near Florida International University. An SUV could be seen completely inside the liquor store. Firefighters said the SUV crashed into the store, causing its engine to catch on fire, creating a thick cloud of smoke. Witnesses who work nearby in the same plaza said a woman and her daughter appeared to be trapped inside the SUV.

WASHINGTON - Federal investigators looking into the deadly bridge collapse at Florida International University confirm that a flawed design is to blame for the disaster that killed six people. Additionally, the National Transportation Safety Board determined, during a public meeting held Tuesday, that the failure of all concerned parties to recognize and take action on the threat to public safety led to the deadly pedestrian bridge collapse at FIU on March 15, 2018. There were "failures at all levels" of the collapse that killed six people and injured ten, the NTSB stated. FIU president Mark Rosenberg was at the meeting as the NTSB revealed the university was part of that oversight failure. "All parties had the authority to close the bridge and did not act on that authority," stated Robert L. Sumwalt, chairman of the NTSB.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a road-rage shooting in southwest Miami-Dade County. FHP Trooper Joe Sanchez told Local 10 News the shooting occurred Friday morning on the Palmetto Expressway exit to Southwest Eighth Street. A view from Sky 10 showed two red cars stopped on the side of Southwest Eighth Street. "Two drivers apparently got involved in an altercation," Sanchez said. "One states that the other one improperly changed lanes and it led to an altercation between drivers.

PLANTATION, Fla. - Firefighters rescue two dogs and two cats from a house fire Sunday night in Plantation. Flames engulfed the home in the area of Southwest Eighth Street and 62nd Avenue. MIAMI - A stretch of Florida's Turnpike was closed in both directions Wednesday morning in Miami. The turnpike was closed between the Southwest Eighth Street exit and the Dolphin Expressway because of emergency construction. Florida Department of Transportation workers were removing an overhead sign that spans both directions at Southwest Eighth Street. "It is currently unsafe to allow vehicles to travel under the sign structure," the FDOT said in a news release. The turnpike was closed for several hours before reopening shortly before 10:30 a.m.
