A landmark legal battle opened as climate change activists in the Netherlands go to court seeking an order for energy giant Shell to rein in its carbon emissions. Lawyer Roger Cox told a panel of three judges at The Hague District Court that Royal Dutch Shell's corporate policy is “at odds” with global climate goals. “Everybody needs to pitch in if we are to tackle the climate crisis, especially big polluters like Shell. Cox told the court that Shell is responsible — through its business activities and sales of fossil fuels — for around 1.2% of the globe's industrial greenhouse gas emissions. “The Shell case taken by Milieudefensie and others is the first to actually do this in court,” she said.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A man was shot and killed overnight near the intersection of Hallandale Beach Boulevard and NW 8th Avenue, police say. A silver Chevy Tahoe riddled with bullets could be seen crashed up against the side of a T-Mobile store before dawn, with detectives surrounding it. The SUV, which has a Tennessee license plate, has since been towed away. The victim’s body was found half a block away, Hallandale Beach police say. Based on their initial investigation, the victim was located at 730 West Hallandale Beach Blvd.

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – The motive behind a shooting Saturday morning that left one man dead outside of a Southwest Miami-Dade Shell gas station was robbery, according to Miami-Dade police. Police said that the thief confronted the victim and then shot him around 8 a.m. at the gas station off Southwest 152nd Street and 122nd Avenue. Investigators spent most of Saturday on the scene, placing several evidence markers next to shell casings. They were also reviewing surveillance video from both inside and outside the gas station. While police would not divulge details to Local 10 as to why they were focusing their attention at the home, they did confirm that it was linked to their search for the gunman in the Shell gas station shooting.

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. - Two pedestrians were struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a gas station in Lauderdale Lakes. The man and woman were standing or walking in the parking lot of the Shell gas station at West Oakland Park Boulevard and State Road 7 when they were struck just after 1 p.m., Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said. A woman believed to be in her 40s suffered a head injury and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in serious condition. A man believed to be in his 20s was taken to Florida Medical Center as a precaution. Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Two suspects were taken into custody Monday morning in Miramar after an armed carjacking in Miami Gardens, police said. Miami Gardens police said the carjacking occurred while the victim was working as the overnight security guard at a fireworks tent on Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 163rd Street. Miami Gardens police Officer Carlos Austin said the juvenile suspects were taken into custody after crashing the stolen SUV off Red Road and Miramar Parkway and bailing out of the vehicle. Clark maintains the grounds near the fireworks tent for the property owner. "They can replace everything, replace the car."
