In Washington, D.C., at the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris honored the more than 400,000 who have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. since March. Biden and Harris turned to face the Abraham Lincoln monument. President Donald Trump did not participate in the ceremony on Tuesday and he won’t be attending the presidential inauguration on Wednesday.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Some Broward County residents will be able to see a light display at The Guitar Hotel at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino from a distance during the New Year’s Eve countdown in Hollywood. Fort Lauderdale is hosting a virtual celebration in partnership with The Orange Bowl. The hour-production will include live music by the Shane Duncan Band and a short fireworks display, along with the annual anchor drop from the Venice of America. “It’s just a sampling of fireworks ... the idea is to just once again symbolize the excitement that we have going here in our community,” Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean J. Trantalis said. Restaurants and bars at Las Olas Boulevard are preparing for the NYE celebrations with special menus and drinks.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino garage back in July, Seminole Tribe police say. Thomas was arrested Nov. 24 in Fort Lauderdale and is being held without bond in the Broward County Jail, authorities say. He will be transported to Broward County, where both suspects are expected to stand trial, the Seminole tribe says. Dion Brown, 21, and Jaleel Arnett Thomas, 25, were arrested in connection with the killing of a North Lauderdale man at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in July. Seminole Tribe police said it took several law enforcement agencies to make the arrests.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. Two men were arrested early Wednesday after an Uber vehicle was shot at in Hollywood, authorities confirmed. According to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, the Uber driver picked up a man and a woman from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino shortly before the car was shot up in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Sheridan Street. Local 10 News had a crew at the scene as a black Honda could be seen with bullet holes in it. Hollywood police confirmed that the suspects were in a Mercedes-Benz, which they parked in front of a home off Polk Street and North 13th Avenue before running off. A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

They say Kenroy Smith, 29, walked away with another mans keys and then refused to cooperate with officers. The video recorded by an onlooker shows Smith on the ground, police around him, and security looks to be trying to block off the crowd. The man who recorded this video is heard chiming in multiple times, asking what is going on. Hes laying on the ground.The man who recorded the video spoke with Local 10 News after the incident.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A group of protesters grew late Friday afternoon along U.S. 441 in Hollywood, and it even included former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield, who lives in Fort Lauderdale. “This is important, because the golden promise is to do unto others as you want them to do unto you,” Holyfield said, joining the demonstration against racial inequality. The protesters gathered at the intersection of 441 and Griffin Road, not far from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and marched north. “It’s important for me to come out here to support George Floyd, because he died very inhumanely,” said one of the protesters. Because if you don’t go to the polls to vote, this is how we end up where we are.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood is hosting a three-day job fair beginning Wednesday as they seek employees for the new Guitar Hotel. The job fair is being held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday; from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday; and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Applicants who need assistance or access to computers will be able to obtain services in the resort's ballroom area on each day of the job fair from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Guitar Hotel will open in October, with 19 dining outlets and 20 bars. DAER Dayclub/Nightclub will also be filling more than 100 positions for beverage servers, bartenders, security, VIP hosts and managerial positions.
