Shares have yoyo'd recently with fluctuations in bond yields. When yields rise quickly, as they have in recent weeks, it forces Wall Street to rethink the value of stocks. U.S. government bond yields rose Wednesday after easing a day earlier.

Stocks climbed in response, and the S&P on Friday finished only three points below the all-time closing high it set on July 26. But with stock futures pointing at a higher open in New York, the wait for a new record could be over on Monday. S&P 500 stocks have risen 0.54% on average on Oct. 28 between 1950 and 2018. Still, the index was some 1.5% below its July record high at Friday's close.
