BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, Fla. – A South Florida police officer who had been on administrative leave amid allegations that he violated his agency's social media policy has been reinstated. Bay Harbor Islands Police Department Cpl. Pablo Lima was restored to full duty Thursday, Town Manager J.C. Jimenez said in a statement. An internal affairs investigation concluded that Lima didn’t violate department policy when he chose to “like” several comments to a social media post that his wife, Hallandale Beach Commissioner Anabelle Lima-Taub, shared on her public page. “I further find that Corporal Lima was expressing his First Amendment rights showing support for his wife,” Lt. Curtis Johnson wrote in his close-out memorandum.

BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, Fla. – A rally was held Saturday evening in support of a police officer who was recently suspended for supporting his wife’s controversial comments on social media. Pablo Lima was recently suspended for social media “likes” indicating support for anti-Muslim comments. Some of the social media comments made were supporting controversial comments made by his wife, Hallandale Beach city Commissioner Anabelle Lima-Taub. Pablo Lima is accused of liking some of the controversial comments made during that time, supporting and encouraging the tension. “The content of the social media posts that were brought to our attention are not consistent with our town’s values and policies," Town Manager J.C. Jimenez said in a statement.
