According to Miami-Dade police, the pursuit began at 2:35 p.m. when detectives spotted a stolen pickup truck in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 81st Street. The driver exited the northbound I-95 ramp at Northwest 103rd Street, where he then attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the ramp, according to MDPD. An officer’s vehicle went in with a dramatic pit maneuver, colliding head-on with the pickup truck and forcing the suspect behind the wheel to stop. The truck was quickly surrounded by officers with guns drawn and the suspect was placed into custody.

But 24 hours after the ambush at a busy intersection in Northeast Miami-Dade, the investigation continues but no word from authorities. Witnesses said the man stepped out of his car, walked up to the trooper’s vehicle and opened fire. More video appears to show the trooper taking away the subject’s gun and placing it on the back of his patrol car.

Witnesses said the trooper was parked there to monitor traffic where construction is underway in the busy area. AdFlorida Highway Patrol Major Christopher Dellapietra said the subject approached the car and began firing into the patrol vehicle. The suspect’s white car remained parked in the lanes of traffic within walking distance from the trooper’s marked unit. AdThe gunman was transported to Aventura Hospital & Medical Center while investigators now work to find out what led up to the shooting.

Police have not yet released any detailed information and said they are still in the midst of the investigation. Around 2 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the home at 20325 NE 13th Court. Crime scene tape has been set up around the scene. Local 10 saw people arriving at the home visibly upset – possibly loved ones or family members of the victim, but that has not been confirmed.
