His tenure at Liverpool was far more successful, leading the Reds to the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup treble in 2001. โGerard Houllier was still a young man at the age of 73,โ former Manchester United manager Ferguson said. After six years with the Reds, Houllier returned to France in 2005 as coach of Lyon, winning two French league titles.
