The MMA fighter who was accused of trying to kidnap a 3-year-old girl during a recent disagreement with the girl’s father in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood appeared in court on Tuesday. Michael Nates, 31, allegedly attempted to kidnap the girl near the KO ZONE gym at 301 NW 54th St. While walking with his 3-year-old daughter, Alex Torres (pictured) was allegedly attacked by local MMA fighter Michael Nates. Officers arrested Nates and reported he tried to grab an officer’s gun at the police station and it took about a dozen officers to retrain him. MIAMI – The case of a local MMA fighter who police say attacked officers after allegedly assaulting a father and his young daughter was back in court Wednesday. A Miami-Dade County judge ultimately decided that Michael Nates, 31, will undergo a mental health evaluation. Authorities said Torres initially ignored Nates, who kept following Torres and his young daughter, asking the same question, and for the girl’s name. According to police, Nates somehow caused the girl to fall down, so Torres grabbed her and started running away. That’s when police said Nates punched Torres and grabbed the girl by the arm, but a witness grabbed the girl back from Nates while he fought with Torres.

MIAMI – Mixed Martial Arts fighter Michael Nates, of Hialeah, remains at a hospital in intensive care after he sparred with Miami police officers following his arrest on Sunday. Local 10 News reporter Christina Vazquez spoke to Nates’ mother Thursday following a bond court hearing for his case. The girl’s father, Alex Torres, spoke to Local 10 News this week. Authorities said Michael Nates got into a fight with officers at a Miami police station. “That is when he tries to grab a hold of the officer’s handgun,” Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said.
