Also concerning is that the stadium will be located in a direct flight path at Miami International Airport. “How significant traffic around the airport would impact the accessibility of the airport and our economy,” says Sola. “The biggest intersection we have in Dade County, LeJeune Road going to the airport and 836 — it is a huge intersection,” adds Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe Martinez. Currently, the county code does not permit variances in the area where this stadium is going in.

Its the second consecutive City of Miami meeting in which commissioners postponed a critical vote that would move development forward and give Major League Soccers Inter Miami CF a permanent home. Additionally, Miami Freedom Park will accrue $2.9 billion in tax revenue over the proposed 99-year lease, Mas said. Inter Miami CF will play its first two seasons in Fort Lauderdale starting in 2020.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez have said they both want to make sure that the soccer stadium doesn't interfere with operations at Miami International Airport. Traffic engineers believe the ideal times for the Saturday game day arrival are from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the departure period from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
