MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A reckless driver on Friday in South Beach turned out to be an armed convicted felon who was wanted in Georgia, according to the Miami Beach Police Department. Officers reported Owens struck an officer on an SUV with his vehicle in an attempt to get away from them. The officer was treated at a local urgent care and Owen was arrested. While officers were trying to put Owens inside a marked police car, he kicked an officer in the groin area and the officer punched him in the leg, according to the arrest form. NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A gun buyback event was held Sunday morning in North Miami. The safer communities gun buyback event took place at Ronald Book Athletic Stadium. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A distracted Uber driver who was texting ran over a police officer on Thursday evening in South Beach, police said. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A man was taken into custody Friday morning after multiple shots were fired in front of an apartment building in Miami Beach, authorities confirmed. "At 5:45 this morning we received two calls that shots were being fired near the 1500 block of Drexel Avenue," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said. "Three of our officers arrived immediately to 1535 Drexel Avenue, where they located several spent shell casings outside of that building." A perimeter was established in the area as the Miami Beach Police Department's SWAT team and a hostage negotiator responded to the scene. Rodriguez said officers saw the suspect jump from a second-floor window in the rear of the building to the ground, at which time he was taken into custody.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach Police Department detectives are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a cyclist on Saturday morning on the MacArthur Causeway. Detectives found the vehicle involved, but they have yet to release the description of the driver. MIAMI BEACH - A man was arrested Saturday in connection with multiple burglaries in Miami Beach over the past month, according to the Miami Beach Police Department. Police took into custody Terry Person, 28, after he allegedly committed burglaries at hotels on Collins Avenue, authorities said. The latest incident occurred at the Alexander All Suite Oceanfront resort, where Person allegedly stole items from a family of 12 as they were sleeping in their unit, police said.
