Barquet fought for his life at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he did his residency decades ago. Dr. Mark Multach, Mercy Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, said Barquet worked at the hospital for about two decades. “He was able to communicate with all people and it was his forte and that will never be forgotten,” Gallardo said. Gallardo and other colleagues are asking the community to honor Barquet’s legacy by taking care of themselves during the coronavirus pandemic.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue Chief Jorge Linares said nine people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. Firefighters are called to a carbon monoxide leak at the Shore Club. According to a representative from the hospital, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used to treat decompression illness, wounds, arterial gas embolism and carbon monoxide poisoning. Authorities said it appears the leak occurred in an industrial-like area of the hotel that houses pool pumps and other equipment.

The man was swimming when he went into cardiac arrest, according to Key Biscayne Fire Rescue. The National Weather Service issued a coastal hazard message about 4 p.m. warning of a "high rip current risk" that will be on effect until Monday morning. Authorities were advising swimmers to remain calm and swim in a direction following the shoreline when caught in a rip current. Another man died while swimming in the ocean off Miami Beach on Friday night.
