Because of COVID-19, loanDepot park will be limited to about 25% capacity, or a little more than 9,000 people, for Opening Day on Thursday. Jeter was also asked if the new naming rights might allow the team to spend more freely on players.

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins have not yet said how many fans will be allowed to attend home games when the season begins, but Wednesday the team announced safety measures they are taking. The first game at Marlins Park is April 1 against the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays. The safety measures listed by the Marlins include:Cleaning MeasuresMarlins Park has enrolled in the WELL Health-Safety Rating. Bags will not be permitted inside Marlins Park unless for medical or infant purposes; all bags are subject to inspection. Personal food items will not be permitted inside Marlins Park unless due to specific dietary restrictions.

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins are planning to join the Florida Panthers in achieving the WELL Health-Safety rating for their home venue in 2021. The team says that they have enrolled the health-safety certification as part of its continued commitment to invest in the fan experience at Marlins Park. The Marlins would join the Yankees as the first two MLB franchises to enroll in the program. “The health and safety of our fans and guests, along with our players, coaches and staff, is of the utmost importance to our organization,” said Michael Shaw, the Marlins’ head of experience and innovation. Opening Day at Marlins Park is set for April 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Florida health officials confirmed 5,737 additional cases of COVID-19 on Monday and another 120 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus. The state has now verified 1,783,720 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 27,816 resident deaths, according to the department of health. MIAMI – Kim Waters-Koons says two of her staff members at Dade Physical Therapy were told they could not get the COVID-19 vaccine at Marlins Park this week, despite the state scheduling line booking appointments for them. “The first employee arrived at Marlins Park on Wednesday morning and was turned away and told they were not vaccinating healthcare workers at that facility,” she said. Supervisors at the Marlins Park site told Local 10 News that the state’s division of emergency management told them only healthcare workers in contact with coronavirus patients could get the shot. Ad“Of course the therapists are directly touching the patients,” Waters-Koons said of her staff. We are here to serve the patients.”We are awaiting word from the state on whether those office employees who come into contact with patients at healthcare facilities are eligible to get vaccines from the state at this time.

Florida health officials confirmed 10,533 additional cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and another 137 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus. The case increase is significantly higher than the 5,730 new cases reported Monday, which had been the state’s lowest since Nov. 16. ___The sale of spring training tickets for St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins games in Jupiter, Florida, has been delayed because of uncertainty about the schedule for games. Major League Baseball last week proposed a one-month delay in starting spring training due to the coronavirus pandemic. Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter earlier had announced it would begin selling spring training tickets for the Cardinals and Marlins on Monday. ___The Cleveland Indians will not be allowing fans to watch their spring training workouts in Arizona due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AdThere has not yet been a decision on whether fans will be able to attend spring training games.

MIAMI – Former Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has reached a lawsuit settlement to reimburse local government $4.2 million for the cost of building Marlins Park, which opened in 2012. The payment stems from the $1.2 billion sale of the team in 2017 by Loria to Derek Jeter and his ownership group. In 2009, local government agreed to help pay for the ballpark in exchange for Loria’s agreement to share profits if he later sold the team. Following the sale, Loria claimed a loss on the deal due to taxes, which the county described as “fuzzy math.”

MIAMI – People made the trip from all over Florida Wednesday to get in line at the new COVID-19 vaccination site at Marlins Park in Miami. People in line who spoke to Local 10 News came from places such as Naples and Boca Raton. AdThe Florida Division of Emergency Management says second doses are already being scheduled at Hard Rock Stadium. “A lot of people are coming from outside the area, other countries, other states,” Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis said. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that the state will be receiving 307,000 doses next week -- about 40,000 more than the state has been getting weekly.

MIAMI – The state of Florida is funding the COVID-19 vaccination site at Marlins Park, but it’s City of Miami firefighters who are running the day-to-day operations. She was among the 900 people who waited in a long line Monday morning to get the coveted Pfizer vaccine at Marlins Park. Ron DeSantis said of the 1.7 million vaccine doses Florida has received, about 1 million have gone toward vaccinating seniors. “They should be getting a call.”DeSantis also addressed a question about second doses Monday, saying the doses will be there and supply is not an issue for those. “We are marking the second doses,” he said.

MIAMI – Marlins Park in Miami’s Little Havana will be the temporary home of both a coronavirus testing site and a COVID-19 vaccine site starting on Wednesday morning. The drive-thru site’s distribution of 1,000 vaccines daily will be ongoing from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s limited to people who are 65 years old or older and who have an appointment. According to the Florida Department of Health’s most recent COVID-19 vaccine report on Miami-Dade County, 108,802 people have only received the first dose and 16,033 have completed the series. Miami-Dade County residents 65 and older have a number of ways to sign up for COVID-19 vaccines, though demand still outpaces supply and appointments are difficult to secure.

HIALEAH, Fla. – There has been a higher demand for consumer fireworks in South Florida ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, but there is also a short supply. Patricia Taime owns the Fireworks Lady & Co., which operates seasonal firework sales tent locations throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. “We did extremely, extremely well,” Taime said about her sales as a consumer fireworks supplier. This is all to blame for the nationwide shortage of consumer fireworks, she said. Raul Caminero, who also profits from consumer fireworks sales, said there have been many complications during the pandemic.

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins Foundation handed out 1,000 meals at the 10th annual Miami Marlins Home Plate Meals Distribution sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. The foundation, which is partnered with Feeding South Florida, hosted the event on the West Plaza at Marlins Park where families had the opportunity to meet Marlins players and staff, and also receive a Thanksgiving dinner including a turkey and other side items. The Marlins partnered with more than 50 nonprofit agencies to distribute 1,000 meal vouchers to local underserved families. Miami Marlins CEO Derek Jeter, Marlins player Isan Diaz, Miguel Rojas and Lewis Brinson, and Marlins Alumni Alex Gonzalez and Charles Johnson, helped distribute the food items to the families.

Bethune-Cookman knocks off Florida A&M againThe 40th annual Florida Classic was indeed a classic on Saturday, as an announced crowd of more than 55,000 fans saw Bethune-Cookman continue its dominance of Florida A&M. It was the highest-attended Florida Classic game since 2011. The Wildcats earned a 31-27 win over Florida A&M, the ninth straight win for Bethune-Cookman in the series. Florida ended a five-year losing streak to Florida State last year with a 41-14 win in Tallahassee. Marlins Park will be turned into a football field for a game between the FIU Panthers and Miami Hurricanes. Marlins Park, which opened in 2012, was built on the site of the old Orange Bowl. FIU athletic director Pete Garcia says Marlins Park is a fitting venue for the Panthers to host the Miami Hurricanes in football. It will be the first football game played at Marlins Park since the last Miami Beach Bowl in 2016. Garcia said he's expecting the largest number of FIU recruits at Marlins Park for the game in program history.

According to Andy Slater, the threats were posted to the Facebook page of the Miami Marlins. "Death threats coming to all people that live in Miami" was one of the reported posts, while the other was "someone might bomb the city." The Hurricanes and Panthers are scheduled to face off at the stadium on Nov. 23. A representative with Miami-Dade County's Division of Homeland Security confirmed the department is looking into the threat and is "working closely with other agencies to ensure the safety of all."

The Marlins Foundation will donate all 50/50 Raffle proceeds, and match money raised from the upcoming homestand to the relief efforts. MIAMI – The Miami Marlins will host a job fair at Marlins Park today. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.Marlins officials says they will be looking to hire event staff in a variety of different positions. Opportunities will include Guest Services, Ticket Operations, Retail Operations, Premium Services, Foundation, Fan Loyalty, and Security. Team partners will also be looking to hire in areas such as Concessions, Janitorial and Event Services. Those looking to take part in the job fair are asked to bring several copies of their resume and dress in business professional attire.
